Access Control for Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X Computers
Effective access control is fundamental to enterprise IT organizations. It is essential that only authorized users have access to systems that contain sensitive information. During IT security and compliance audits, the ability to demonstrate effective access control is imperative. Likewise Enterprise provides several mechanisms to implement access control for Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X computers. This paper describes these mechanisms and provides guidelines for using them. -
Using Likewise for Single Sign-On With Kerberos and Active Directory
Likewise initializes and maintains a Kerberos ticket granting ticket (TGT) for Linux, Unix, and Mac computers. You can then log on other computers or applications provisioned with a Service Principal Name and be automatically authenticated and authorized for access through Active Directory. In a process transparent to the user, the underlying security system requests a Kerberos service ticket for the Kerberos-enabled application or server. The result: single sign-on. -
Using Likewise Enterprise for Active Directory-Based Single Sign-On with SAP
Likewise Enterprise lets you join Linux and Unix computers running the SAP R/3 Application Server to Microsoft Active Directory, yielding a range of benefits for users, system administrators, and managers. -
Likewise Enterprise 4.0 Technical Overview
The Technical Overview describes how Likewise Enterprise joins non-Windows computers to Active Directory, authenticates users, authorizes users and groups for access to resources, stores Unix and Linux user information in Active Directory, and manages Linux and Unix computers with group policies. It also outlines Likewise Enterprise's two operating modes, its use of cells, and its software components and processes. (1 MB) -
Joining Macs to Active Directory Boosts Security and Eases Compliance
Likewise Enterprise lets you join Mac OS X computers to a Microsoft Active Directory domain, yielding a range benefits beyond those provided by the Active Directory plug-in that is included with Mac OS X. Likewise simplifies the process of joining a Mac to an Active Directory domain, allows you to assign a static UID to a Mac user without changing the Active Directory schema, and gives you the power to centrally manage all your Macs with group policies. The result: Less work, more security, easier system administration. -
