Happy New Year!

Barry Crist, CEO, Likewise Software

February 1st is the first day of our fiscal year and this is already shaping up to be another incredible year for Likewise. The last six months have been wild ones for the Likewise team, our customers, and partners.

Likewise Open has been enthusiastically received by organizations that want a great way to authenticate Linux, UNIX, and Mac computers into directories such as AD. Red Hat and Ubuntu have announced and will soon be shipping and supporting Likewise Open as part of their Linux distributions.

Likewise Enterprise 4.0 is taking the market by storm and let's simply say winning well more than its fair share of competitive battles in large enterprise organizations. Our new name fits the company perfectly and we're executing well across all areas of the business and continuing to bring top industry talent to our team.

The CIO conversation is increasingly about "effectively managing a mixed but well integrated environment" as well as "leveraging and extending our existing infrastructure." We continue to see focus on securing access to both server and desktop environments in a secure and efficient manner. And the pressure from the audit and compliance teams is going to increase this year.

We have big plans in the works and you will see significant announcements from us throughout the year. Until then, thank you all for your help making Linux, UNIX and Mac systems first-class citizens in a Windows environment.

Warm regards,

Warm Regards

Barry Crist
CEO

Who says you can't use Active Directory with Linux?
Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, of eWEEK.com

Like it or lump it, Microsoft's Active Directory is the heart of many corporate networks. That, however, doesn't mean that Linux and Mac systems can't work and play with Active Directory. With Samba, they can. And, with Likewise, Linux and Mac can work and play well with Active Directory.

Linux, Unix, Mac, Windows PCs get authentication integration
John Fontana, of networkworld.com

"For me, the big story of open source in the enterprise is that it's becoming a non-story," says Barry Crist, the CEO of Centeris, which makes software to integrate user authentication services between Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac. "There was so much hand wringing, but what I am seeing at the corporate level is this has become uninteresting to them. They are comfortable with the mix between commercial and open source. Organizations are working to figure out how to best leverage and integrate these platforms with their Windows environments."
